Low Ox Life
Terms of Service
What changed in this version
- AI (Sections 2.7 and 21): Microsoft (Azure OpenAI) is named as a provider; some providers may keep a request for up to about 55 days for abuse monitoring; the statement that each provider processes your data under its own terms is replaced by how requests are routed
- Section 2.8: use the App alongside your clinician’s care, rather than a list of people who may not use it
- Do not make medical decisions based on day scores or any other figure in the App
- Settings paths corrected: AI is turned off in Settings › Privacy & Security › AI Data Access, and an account is deleted in Settings › Delete Account
- A plain-English summary now opens each numbered section
- Section 6.6: Apple’s standard license terms apply to the App alongside these Terms, and Apple is a third-party beneficiary of them
- Section 6.4: the license to your content is no longer called “perpetual”; it ends when you delete the content or your account
Important Notice
THIS IS A LEGALLY BINDING AGREEMENT. Please read carefully before accepting. If you have questions, consult with legal counsel. BY USING THIS APP, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPT ALL RISKS OUTLINED HEREIN.
1. Acceptance of Terms
In plain English: Using the app means you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. We can update the terms, and if you disagree you should stop using the app.
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Low Ox Life ("the App", "Service", "Platform"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable laws and regulations.
- If you are using the App on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.
- We reserve the right to update these terms at any time without prior notice. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
- If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately uninstall the App and discontinue all use.
- These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Big Freight Life LLC regarding the use of the App.
2. Medical Disclaimer & Health Information
In plain English: Low Ox Life gives educational information. It is not a medical device or medical advice. Use it alongside your clinician’s care, don’t make a medical decision from any figure or AI answer in the app, and call emergency services in an emergency.
2.1 Not a Medical Device
CRITICAL WARNING: Low Ox Life is NOT:
- A medical device (not FDA approved, cleared, or registered)
- A diagnostic tool
- A treatment recommendation system
- A substitute for professional medical care
- Intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition
2.2 Educational Purpose Only
This App is designed SOLELY for educational and informational purposes. All content, including but not limited to:
- Oxalate calculations
- Dietary recommendations
- Symptom tracking insights
- AI-generated content
- Risk predictions
- Correlation analysis
- Exported reports
...are provided for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY and should never be used as a basis for medical decisions without consulting a qualified healthcare provider.
2.3 No Medical Advice
- The App does NOT provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations.
- The App should NEVER replace consultation with a physician, registered dietitian, or qualified health provider.
- Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of information obtained through the App.
- Never make changes to your diet, medications, or treatment plan based solely on App information without consulting your healthcare provider.
2.4 Emergency Situations
IN CASE OF MEDICAL EMERGENCY, IMMEDIATELY CALL 911 OR YOUR LOCAL EMERGENCY SERVICES. Do not use the App or contact support for emergency medical situations.
2.5 Individual Variation
- Individual responses to dietary changes vary significantly.
- Oxalate sensitivity, tolerance levels, and health conditions differ from person to person.
- What works for one person may be harmful to another.
- The App cannot account for your unique medical history, medications, allergies, or conditions.
2.6 Data Accuracy Disclaimer
- Oxalate values come from published sources, chiefly the table published by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and from any lists you import. Published values may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information.
- Food preparation methods, growing conditions, and product formulations can significantly affect oxalate content.
- A food with no tested oxalate value is shown as "?" and is never counted as zero. A total that includes such a food is shown as a minimum ("at least"), not a complete figure.
- The App cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currency of nutritional data.
- User-entered data, imported foods, custom recipes, and product data found by barcode may contain errors.
2.7 AI-Powered Features & Limitations
CRITICAL: Some features of this App use artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Requests are routed through OpenRouter, a third-party service, to models from Google (Gemini), OpenAI, Microsoft (Azure OpenAI, which can serve OpenAI's models) and TypeSafe. AI features are off until you allow them, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › AI Data Access.
The App includes the following AI-powered features:
1. Meal Photos and Described Meals:
- Identifies the foods in a photo of a meal, or in a meal you describe, and estimates amounts
- The AI supplies food names and amounts only; every oxalate figure comes from the App's food data, never from the AI
- May misidentify foods, miss foods, or misjudge amounts; you must check every item before logging it
- Foods it cannot match to a tested food are logged as untested ("?")
2. Recipe Scanner:
- Reads the text of a recipe you photograph and turns it into a recipe in the App
- May misread ingredients, amounts, units, or steps; you must check the result before relying on it
3. AI Recipe Writing & Meal Suggestions:
- Writes recipes and suggests meals based on your requests and your oxalate target
- The recipes that come with the App were also written with AI
- Recipes have NOT been tested, validated, or reviewed by nutritionists
- May suggest ingredient combinations that are unsafe, allergenic, or unsuitable
- Oxalate figures are calculated from the App's food data and may be inaccurate
- Users are solely responsible for verifying recipe safety before preparation
4. AI Health Insights & Analysis:
- Summarizes your journal to identify patterns and correlations
- Insights are statistical estimates, NOT medical diagnoses
- May identify spurious correlations or miss important patterns
- Cannot account for individual medical circumstances
- Should be discussed with healthcare providers, not used for self-diagnosis
5. Food List Import:
- Sorts the foods in a list you import into categories
- May place foods in the wrong category
General AI Limitations:
- All AI features may experience errors, outages, or unexpected behavior, including "hallucinations" (generating false information)
- AI output is generated automatically and is NOT reviewed by medical professionals
- AI models may change without notice, affecting feature behavior
- AI cannot replace human judgment or professional expertise
- Always verify AI-generated information with authoritative sources
2.8 Specific Health Condition Warnings

4.4 Third-Party Services & Integrations
- The App relies on third-party services, including Apple (sign-in, subscriptions, notifications and iCloud), our database host, Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central (barcode lookups), and, if you allow AI features, OpenRouter and the AI providers it routes to
- Bio Break (logging BB1 and BB2 bathroom breaks) is a feature of the App; those records are health information handled as described in the Privacy Policy
- Third-party services are subject to their own terms and privacy policies
- We are not responsible for third-party data handling practices
- Integration failures may result in data loss or inaccuracy
4.5 Data Retention & Deletion
- When you delete your account, deletion takes effect immediately; copies in our database host's backups expire on their own schedule
- We keep a record that a deletion was carried out, as described in our Privacy Policy
- An account that is not used for 12 consecutive months may be deleted, with its data, after the warnings described in our Privacy Policy. An account with an active, paid subscription is never deleted for inactivity

In plain English: Some features carry extra warnings. AI-generated content, reports, fasting features, the recipe calculator, barcode scanning and list imports can be wrong, so check anything that matters before you rely on it.
12.1 AI-Generated Content & Outputs
All AI-generated content (identified meals, scanned recipes, written recipes, meal suggestions, insights, imported-list categories) carries inherent risks:
Meal Photos and Described Meals:
- The AI may name the wrong food, miss a food, or misjudge an amount

- We are not liable for any harm resulting from relying on an identified meal
AI-Generated Recipes:
- Have NOT been tested, prepared, or consumed by anyone
- May contain dangerous ingredient combinations or allergens
- Oxalate figures are calculated from the App's food data for the ingredients listed, and may be inaccurate
- May violate dietary restrictions or cultural/religious requirements
- User assumes all risk for preparing and consuming AI-suggested recipes
- We are not liable for food poisoning, allergic reactions, or health consequences
Scanned Recipes:
- Text read from a photo may contain errors in ingredients, amounts, units, temperatures, or steps

- Are algorithmic pattern recognition, NOT medical analysis
- May identify meaningless correlations or miss critical patterns
- Cannot account for medications, conditions, or individual factors
- Should be shared with your doctor, not used for self-treatment
- We are not liable for health decisions based on AI insights
General AI Disclaimers:
- AI cannot replace human judgment or professional expertise

- The remaining provisions continue in full force

In plain English: These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Big Freight Life LLC regarding the App and supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications, whether written or oral.
20. Assignment
In plain English: You can’t transfer your account or these terms to someone else. We can transfer them.
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account to any third party. We may assign these Terms at any time without notice to you.
21. Artificial Intelligence Services
In plain English: AI features are optional. When you turn them on, requests go through OpenRouter to AI providers, some of which may keep a request for up to about 55 days for abuse monitoring. AI can be wrong, and the app takes every oxalate figure from its own food data, never from the AI.
21.1 Third-Party AI Providers
When you allow AI features, the App routes AI requests through OpenRouter, a third-party service, to models from Google (Gemini), OpenAI, Microsoft (Azure OpenAI, which can serve OpenAI's models) and TypeSafe.
Critical Disclosures:
- The data a feature needs (see Section 21.2) is transmitted through OpenRouter to the relevant provider's servers for AI processing
- Requests are routed only to providers that OpenRouter lists as not training on your data. Some of them may keep a request for up to 55 days for abuse monitoring.
- We do not control these providers' AI models, infrastructure, or data handling practices
- If no such provider is available, the request fails rather than going elsewhere
- Data is transmitted over the internet and may pass through multiple jurisdictions
- We cannot guarantee the security, privacy, or confidentiality of data sent to these providers
- These providers' AI models and capabilities may change without notice to us or you
By using AI features, you acknowledge and consent to:
- Transmission of your data through OpenRouter to these providers' servers
- Processing of the health and dietary information a feature needs by these providers
- Their terms of service and privacy policies applying to your data
- Potential international data transfers
21.2 AI Data Processing & Retention
What Data is Sent to AI (only while AI is on, and only what each feature needs):
- Photos of a meal you take or choose, or the text of a meal you describe (meal recognition)
- The text of a recipe you photograph, read from the photo on your device (recipe scanner)
- What you ask for, servings, meal type, your oxalate limit, and the names of candidate foods (recipes and meal suggestions)
- A summary of recent journal days, with symptoms and notes only if you turn them on (insights)
- The food names in a list you import (category sorting)
Data Retention & Training:
- We do not store the photos, descriptions or other content you send to AI features
- Requests go only to model providers that OpenRouter lists as not training on your data. Some of these providers may keep a request for a limited time (up to about 55 days) for abuse monitoring
- We do not control providers' systems and cannot delete data from them after processing
- AI results shown in Insights are kept on your device, not on our servers
AI Is Optional:
- AI features are off until you allow them
- You can decline and keep using every feature that does not need AI
- You can turn AI off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › AI Data Access; while it is off, nothing is sent to an AI provider
21.3 AI Feature-Specific Risks & Limitations
Meal Photos and Described Meals:
- Identification depends on photo quality, lighting, and how the meal is presented or described
- Mixed dishes, sauces, and hidden ingredients are easily missed
- Amounts are estimates and may be far from what you ate
- Cannot detect emergency situations or urgent health needs
Recipe Scanner:
- Depends on the photo's quality, layout, and legibility
- Particularly unreliable for handwritten recipes
- May confuse similar-looking characters (0 vs O, 1 vs l) or units
AI Recipe Writing:
- Recipes created algorithmically, never tested in a real kitchen
- Cannot verify ingredient availability, cost, or seasonality
- May suggest culturally inappropriate or offensive combinations
- Cannot account for individual taste preferences beyond basic preferences
- Serving sizes and cooking times are AI estimates
- May not scale properly for different serving quantities
- Cannot verify recipe practicality or cooking difficulty
- May suggest equipment or techniques unavailable to users
AI Health Insights:
- Pattern recognition based on limited data set (your App data only)
- Cannot access medical records, lab results, or clinical context
- Statistical correlations may be coincidental or spurious
- May miss critical patterns that would be obvious to clinicians
- Cannot account for confounding variables or external factors
- Time-limited analysis (only data in App, not lifetime health history)
- May over-emphasize minor patterns or under-emphasize serious issues
- Insights lag behind real-time health changes
21.4 AI Model Updates & Changes
AI providers may update, modify, or replace AI models at any time without notice:
- AI behavior, accuracy, and capabilities may change unexpectedly
- Features that worked previously may become unavailable or unreliable
- Response style, tone, or content may change significantly
- Previous AI outputs may not be reproducible with updated models
- We have no control over providers' model update schedules or decisions
- No guarantee of backward compatibility or consistent behavior
- Features may be deprecated or removed if a provider discontinues services
Implications:
- AI responses to identical requests may differ over time
- Identified meals, recipes, or insights may vary unexpectedly
- Users cannot rely on consistent AI behavior across app sessions
- We are not liable for changes in AI functionality or quality
21.5 AI Bias, Limitations & Fairness
AI systems have inherent biases and limitations:
Training Data Bias:
- AI models are trained on historical data that may reflect societal biases
- May perform better for some demographics than others
- Training data may over-represent certain populations or perspectives
- May contain cultural, linguistic, or geographic biases
Demographic Limitations:
- AI may be less accurate for:
- Non-English speakers or non-native English users
- Individuals from under-represented ethnic or cultural backgrounds
- Users with rare medical conditions or unusual dietary restrictions
- People with disabilities or accessibility needs
- Individuals outside Western dietary traditions
Content Limitations:
- May reflect gender, age, or socioeconomic biases in training data
- May lack cultural competency for diverse dietary traditions
- May not understand regional food variations or local cuisines
- May make assumptions based on stereotypes or generalizations
Fairness Disclaimer:
- We do not warrant equal accuracy or performance across all user groups
- AI features may work better for some users than others
- We are not liable for discriminatory or biased AI outputs
- Users experiencing bias should discontinue use of affected features
21.6 AI Security & Prompt Injection
While we implement security measures, AI systems are vulnerable to adversarial inputs:
Prompt Injection Risks:
- Users may attempt to manipulate AI behavior through crafted inputs
- AI may be tricked into providing inappropriate, harmful, or incorrect information
- Security measures may not catch all adversarial prompts
- AI may inadvertently reveal system prompts or internal instructions
Security Limitations:
- We implement input filtering and content validation
- However, no security system is perfect
- New attack vectors may emerge that bypass current protections
- We are not liable for security breaches or AI manipulation by bad actors
21.7 Third-Party AI Terms & Compliance
OpenRouter, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft and TypeSafe Terms Apply:
- Your use of AI features is also governed by OpenRouter's Terms of Service and by the Terms of Service of whichever provider (Google, OpenAI, Microsoft or TypeSafe) handles a given request

|---|---|---|
| 2.7 | October 5, 2026 | AI (Sections 2.7 and 21): Microsoft (Azure OpenAI) is named as a provider; some providers may keep a request for up to about 55 days for abuse monitoring; the statement that each provider processes your data under its own terms is replaced by how requests are routed. Section 2.8: use the App alongside your clinician’s care, rather than a list of people who may not use it. Do not make medical decisions based on day scores or any other figure in the App. Settings paths corrected: AI is turned off in Settings › Privacy & Security › AI Data Access, and an account is deleted in Settings › Delete Account. Updated October 7, 2026: a plain-English summary opens each numbered section, and Section 6.6 states that Apple’s standard license terms apply. Section 6.4 no longer says “perpetual”: the license to your content ends when you delete it or your account. |
| 2.6 | September 30, 2026 | Trial and plan features - Section 5.1 and 5.2: the free trial includes every Pro feature for its 7 days, then continues as Starter; fasting (timer, plans and reminders) and symptom trends are Pro features; Starter keeps symptom, note and water tracking.
