Frequently Asked Questions

Billing

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to iPhone Settings › [Your Name] › Subscriptions, find Low Ox Life, and tap “Cancel Subscription.” Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

What happens when my subscription ends?

Nothing is deleted. Your journal, food lists and other saved data stay in your account, and you can still view them in the app. You can’t add to or change them until you subscribe again, and then you carry on where you left off.

Is there a free trial?

First-time subscribers get 7 days free, with every Pro feature; after that the plan you chose continues. Apple allows one trial per Apple ID, so it isn’t offered again if you’ve had one. Browsing the Harvard food list is free and needs no account.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are processed by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find your Low Ox Life purchase, and request a refund.

Can I share my subscription with family?

Low Ox Life supports Family Sharing. If Family Sharing is enabled on your Apple ID, family members can access your subscription at no additional cost.

Data & Sync

Where is my data stored?

Your journal, food lists, recipes, meal plans and grocery lists are stored in your account on our servers and sync across your iPhone and iPad when you sign in with Apple. Some app preferences sync through your own iCloud account. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

My data isn’t syncing between devices

Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID on every device, and check your internet connection. Opening the app again, or pulling down on a list to refresh it, fetches the latest.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Privacy › Download My Data. Choose JSON (for a backup) or CSV (for spreadsheets), then save it to iCloud Drive or share it to any app. Exported files are not encrypted, so keep them somewhere safe.

Is my data secure?

We protect it with encryption in transit and at rest and per-account database rules. No system is perfectly secure. We never sell your data. It is shared only as the Privacy Policy describes — for example, with AI providers if you turn AI features on.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings › Delete Account. Your account and its data are deleted straight away, except a record of the deletion and a few records that are no longer linked to you (such as Apple’s sign-in notices). Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel that in iPhone Settings too.

Tracking

How accurate is the oxalate data?

The figures come from the oxalate table published by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and from any lists you import, which show their own source. Oxalate content still varies with growing conditions, preparation and portion size, so use the figures as a guide, not medical advice. A food that was never tested shows “?” and is never counted as zero.

A food I eat isn’t in the database

On Starter and Pro you can import your own list from a CSV file, and on Pro you can add a custom food from the “⋯” menu on Today. You can also ask us to add a food by emailing support@bfl.design with the food name and any source information you have.

What do the oxalate levels mean?

Levels are per serving, as you eat it. Zero: 0 mg. Very Low: under 2 mg. Low: 2 to under 5 mg. Moderate: 5 to under 10 mg. High: 10 to under 15 mg. Very High: 15 mg or more. “?” means the food hasn’t been tested. Your daily target depends on your individual health situation, so set it with your clinician.

AI Features

What does AI do in the app?

On Pro, AI can identify the foods in a photo of your plate or a meal you describe, read a recipe you photograph, write recipes and meal suggestions, and summarize your journal in Insights. It also sorts the foods in a list you import into categories. AI names foods and estimates amounts; it never supplies an oxalate figure. Every figure comes from the app’s food data, and AI isn’t a substitute for medical advice.

Is AI on by default? Can I turn it off?

No. AI features are off until you allow them, and you can decline and keep using everything else. On Pro you can turn AI on or off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › AI Data Access.

What happens to what I send to AI?

Each feature sends only what it needs. We don’t store your photos or descriptions. Requests go through OpenRouter, and only to model providers that OpenRouter lists as not training on your data. Some of these providers may keep a request for a limited time (up to about 55 days) for abuse monitoring. If no such provider is available, the request fails. The Privacy Policy lists what each feature sends.
